HEXAGON OF HOPE from Malaysia

Well, after a few weeks of fun and leisure finally I came back with a new and fresh attitude. I did continue this for the whole day and it is now out for airing after washing and drying.

All was machine quilted. For freehand quilting definitely I used the darning foot (look closely, I have a broken darning foot, the lever/hook had snapped off few years ago but it is still very faithful to me).

Just simply stippled quilt on all the path except for the 'petals' and feather quilt around the frame.





So, as promised, I am on behalf of all Malaysian, whole-hearted and graciously would like to hand over this to ROBYN. Please give me the details on how to transfer this to its destination..... the Australian Victorian bushfire quilting ladies.

QUILTING IN PROGRESS

In the process of quilting there are many types of basting methods. Traditionally quilts were basted using tread and needle, however here I used safety pins instead. For this project a quarter of an inch fiber were laid internally and placements of safety pins basted quarter-section in parallel rows in opposite directions were adapted throughout about 5" apart each rows.

The basting took place on my prep-table since it is a single and the table could just accommodate the project by quarterly process.

It is necessary to roll or fold the quilt for machine-quilting. This is done by using a free motion method. In my case since I have an ample space I let it loose for easier turning since I used the stitching in the ditch and tracing down the shape of each flowers.

The quilting was done using my other 'old-faithful', the embroidery machine which with my magic wand I transformed it to straight stitching machine for quilting.

The quilting is half way through and I need a lot of courage to really sit and sew...... !

SELVAGED TREASURES

Can't wait to post here the outcome of the hexagon treasures that I found about a few months back. After few trials I finally decide that I should distribute the flowers evenly because there are not enough flowers with the same fabrics or design, and it looked scattered and very busy.

Although in the first place I thought I could maintain its original design... I just could not get a satisfaction for not distributing it even and wisely... I used up all the flowers and add up 2 sets more to make it into this single quilt top.

Anyway here goes the almost done piece.... yet to add the edges which was half way through. Very much hope that I can get it complete the soonest as promised......!

REFURBISHED TREASURE

Hello everybody...... remember my previous post about my findings of the uncomplete hexagons stuff. Here shows what I have done with it.

I have unpicked most of the quilts, since some of them have to be removed due to the fabrics choice and to replace the stained parts. Well, do not have much ideas of how to arrange the flowers yet, since I have to maintain the original layout..... yes!

Need help and advice from everyone here. About anything.... regarding this special piece.

I have the thought, after completing this I want to donate it to the victim of the bush fire in Australia and have read about the Hexagon of Hope and it is the best I can do to help.

Have to pick up all the loose threads and off for ironing .......

Look what have I got here!!! Last weekend while I was strolling around a wet market near my hometown I came across some bundle of helpless non-complete hexagon top. The stitched portion was crushed soulessly on a dirty pavement along the street and the bits-and-pieces were scattered amongst some antique objects.

Could I resist not to grab that! I picked up all whatever I saw. Took home and unpicked all the paper templates and dumped them inside my washing machine. I believe that I have saved this precious quilt top (moreover it is a hexagon project) from being mistreated and abandoned amongst the unwanted items for sales........

I was asked to pay only RM3.00 for all those. Oh my...... all those precious materials...... and the person who had sewn that...... the tiny and neat stitches throughout. Try my very best to reconstruct this pieces and I am sure it will turn out to be a lap quilt or maybe a single comforter and it could give warmth to someone..... who need it.
