CALENDAR QUILT CHALLENGE - JANUARY

Finally...... after the hustle-bustle of life I managed to squeeze myself in fulfilling my promise to post my January pieces. I have decided to take this challenge by using one shade of colour to represent a month considering the weather or any events associated with it. I used 2" x 11" strips throughout and have yet to decide for the sashing and some little embellishments.

Well, hope February will be very friendly to me.... and give some space to quilt more.

HOOKED RUG

Normally we trim the selvage edge off our fabric to make any kind of projects. For me I do not cut it across, but gradually cut about half and inch away from the selvage edge and keep it there until I finish or almost finish the whole cloth and keep the strips aside. Have collected quite a lot of those and constantly hook those strips to make a piece of rug. A long tiny strips could also be included in this construction of rug by hooking 2 layers together for strengthening.

Well, .... IT TAKES YEARS to have a heap of those strips to make a rug for my sewing room . I have yet to complete mine...... here are just tiny bit of it...... about 30cm by 120cm now...... and I believe it is growing and forming.... lets make one for us, friends.

At least we save our strips of selvage edges and transform it into something beneficial........

SALVAGED TREASURES

The stitched portion

The bits-and-pieces

Look what have I got here!!! Last weekend while I was strolling around a wet market near my hometown I came across some bundle of helpless non-complete hexagon top. The stitched portion was crushed soulessly on a dirty pavement along the street and the bits-and-pieces were scattered amongst some antique objects.

Could I resist not to grab that! I picked up all whatever I saw. Took home and unpicked all the paper templates and dumped them inside my washing machine. I believe that I have saved this precious quilt top (moreover it is a hexagon project) from being mistreated and abandoned amongst the unwanted items for sales........

I was asked to pay only RM3.00 for all those. Oh my...... all those precious materials...... and the person who had sewn that...... the tiny and neat stitches throughout. Try my very best to reconstruct this pieces and I am sure it will turn out to be a lap quilt or maybe a single comforter and it could give warmth to someone..... who need it.

EMBROIDERED TABLE CLOTH

This is my first online project on this blog.

Recently few of my friends are asking me to make some tableclothes (saperah) for them. Use to make hundreds of pieces at one time for Syam (she is a real Buddy) to distribute to friends as we call it 'main-kut'. Have to make for 10 persons x10 pieces x 2 groups at one shot. She was the leader of this 'main-kut' thing. I don't even know who bought my saperah till now. Well, it was a history then, and I guess it is repeating.......!

Look at that pile... and I just managed few. It is not that tough to do a piece of this.

Too bad I do
not know how to do tutorial. I will learn the technic to post here. Maybe someone can help. I will be much oblige. All of these will be embroidered by machine after hemming had been sewn to all sides.

ADR'S CnG has its own typical design and applies to all its saperah collections. Only selective embroidery design are chosen. But customizations are accepted accordingly. I am willing to share all this to all. Do contact me, if anyone is interested to have the design or anything of the sorts. Welcome.... Just email me or comments down here and give me your machine format.

CALENDAR QUILT CHALLENGE

1st Post

Hi, DiahRothman here.

I am all the way from Malaysia, 53 years of age, a housewife and a mother of 3 kids. Have been quilting since resigning from my 9 - 5 job to join hubby in Kuala Lumpur about 7 years ago. Since then I never stop doing all sorts of craft works apart from conducting a small group of quilting and embroidery classes at home. Just started blogging about 2 months ago and self-taught myself about anything regarding this cyber-world. Happy to open my eyes and mind to join everybody out there and to explore the world and expending my knowledge more on quilts and anythings related to crafts. Need helps and guidance from everyone....please.

Okay. It seems that everybody has proceeded with their pieces. I was left behind then. Just started collecting my strip stash. Not much though but I'll dig more. I think I will take the lead from Rachel since I'm new to this challenge. Lead me please Rachel. Thanks.

Yeah, thanks also to Tonya of Tonya's Sewing Room who came to visit my blog and drove me to meet everyone here.
Till then. Best regards.
